Economic impact of rice variety MTU 1224 in tribal areas of Parvathipuram Manyam district

Abstract
Rice is the major crop in Parvathipuram-Manyam district. Farmers are not aware of newly released high yielding varieties. Therefore, efforts have been made to demonstrate newly released varieties and improved varieties in Parvathipuram-Manyam district. The present study was carried out by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rastakuntubai during 2022 and 2023 in kharif season to assess the impact of frontline demonstration of improved variety MTU 1224 in rice. Results showed the MTU -1224 variety had recorded highest grain yield (61.37 q/ ha) under rainfed condition in frontline demonstration and in farmer practices it was 51.85 q/ha. Thus, the average technology gap, extension gap and technology index of 6.13 q/ha, 9.5 q/ha and 9.1 percent respectively were observed.
