Abstract
This study analyzes the growth trends, cost-return structure, and marketing pattern of linseed cultivation in the Chhattisgarh Plain. The compound growth rate (CGR) analysis revealed a significant decline in area (-10.43%) and production (-11.24%) over the past decade, while productivity declined marginally (-0.91%) and was statistically insignificant. The average cost of cultivation (Cost C3) was ₹39,128.78/ha, with labor, seeds, fertilizers, and machinery as the major cost components. Among the districts, Bemetara recorded the highest profitability, with a gross income of ₹82,768.50/ha and a B:C ratio of 1:1.20. Marketable surplus accounted for 95.19% of total production, reflecting a strong commercial orientation. Most farmers sold their produce to processors and through APMC. Of the four identified marketing channels, direct sales and APMC were the most efficient, offering higher producer shares and lower marketing costs. The findings suggest the need for policy support and better market access to sustain linseed cultivation in the region.
