Abstract
Burlapping, the process of relocating mature trees, it is a complex but valuable practice in modern arboriculture and landscaping. This technique, which dates back to ancient civilizations, has evolved through innovations like tree spades, mechanized loaders and containerized planting systems. Tree transplantation serves multiple purposes from preserving ecological heritage and accommodating infrastructure projects to enhancing urban green spaces. The burlapping involves various methods such as bare root, balled and burlapped (B&B), packaged stock, containerized plants and field-potted specimens, each with specific guidelines for planting, maintenance and post-care. Successful transplantation relies heavily on pre-transplant root pruning, proper site and species selection, seasonal timing and consistent aftercare. This comprehensive overview highlights the science, methodology and practical considerations necessary for effective transplantation of trees and maintenance underscoring its critical role in sustainable landscape development.
