Effect of nitrogen management on yield and quality of sweet corn under organic farming

The continuous supply of nitrogen to the crop plant is the main challenge in enhancing the yield of crops especially cereals. Hence proper nitrogen management in sweet corn is the need of hour in the organic farming. A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2022 at Udaipur, to study the “Effect of Nitrogen management on yield and quality of sweet corn under organic farming” using randomized block design. The experiment consisted of three replications and eight treatments comprising of control, 100% RDN through FYM, 50% RDN through FYM + intercropping of blackgram, 50% RDN through FYM + green manuring of dhaincha (incorporation at 30 DAS), 50% RDN through FYM + crop residue mulch @ 1 t ha-1 + application of neem cake @ 500 kg ha-1, 50% RDN through FYM + 25% RDN through vermicompost at 30 DAS + 25% RDN through vermicompost at 45 DAS, T1 + intercropping of blackgram and 50% RDN through FYM + jeevamrit @ 500 litre ha-1 at sowing and 30 DAS and 45 DAS + ghanjeevamrit 250 kg ha-1 + spray of vermiwash at 5% at 45 DAS and 60 DAS. The results revealed that green cob yield, green fodder yield, sweet corn equivalent yield, biological yield and quality parameters including protein content in grain as well as TSS content in grain were found highest with the application of 50% RDN through FYM + 25% RDN through vermicompost at 30 DAS + 25% RDN through vermicompost at 45 DAS.
