Status of spices crops in Chhattisgarh

Spices are one of the economically and commercially significant agricultural crops. India is the major producer, consumer and exporter of spices in world. In Chhattisgarh, chilli, ginger, garlic, turmeric, coriander and fenugreek are the major spices grown in the state. The total area of spices recorded in year 2022-23 was 67,702 hectare with the production of 4, 53,604 metric tons. Total area of spices crops in Chhattisgarh during the year 2013-14 was 90174 ha which reduces in 2022-23 i.e. 67702 ha. Similarly, production was also reduces during year 2013-2014 to 2022-23 i.e. 617591 MT to 453604 MT. The area and production of ginger, chilli and nigella are decreases while the area and production of coriander, garlic, turmeric and other spices are increases. The overall areas and production of spices were decreases during 10 years.
