Experiment on response of chickpea to tillage practices under rainfed soybean-chickpea cropping system was conducted at Agriculture Research Station, Achalpur, Maharashtra State of India. Average rainfall and its distribution were found normal in all five years of the experimentation. The PCA of five year rainfall shows not much variation in the dimension. Experiment was conducted in Strip Plot Design with four main plot tillage treatments with two chickpea varieties as subplot treatment with five replications.Different tillage treatment recorded significant effect on soybean equivalent grain yield. Highest soybean equivalent grain yield (2005 kg ha-1) was observed with the treatment T2 - Zero Tillage (ZT) - Application of Glyphosate @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1 immediately after harvesting of Soybean + sowing of chickpea. However it was at par with treatment T1 - Conventional Tillage (CT) - Tractor drawn Cultivator + rotavator + Sowing of chickpea+ one Hoeing + one hand weeding at 25 to 30 DAS. Non significant effect was observed with respect to varieties. Highest soybean equivalent grain yield was recorded with treatment V2 - AKG- 1303 (1914 kg ha-1) over treatment V1. Interaction effect was found to be non significant. Different tillage treatment recorded highest benefit: cost ratio (2.56) was observed with the treatment T2 - Zero Tillage (ZT) - application of Glyphosate @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1 immediately after harvesting of Soybean + sowing of chickpea and with treatment V2 - AKG- 1303 (2.33) over treatment V1.
