System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is a resource-conserving, climate-smart rice production technology that maximizes yield potential with reduced water and input use. Among the primary agronomic practices, nitrogen (N) management is central to plant performance and sustainability. This review discusses the effect of split application of nitrogen on SRI rice in relation to crop growth, yield, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), and the environment. From earlier investigations that have been performed in recent years, site-specific and sustainable nitrogen application methods. This review reveals discussed about combined nitrogen management methods, issues regarding optimizing nitrogen utilization, and directions of future research to optimize NUE in SRI-based rice production. It will help improve agronomic practices that sustainably support rice production.
