Ningthoujam Bidyalaxmi, Vijay Bahadur and Ram Bharose

An experiment was conducted on “Performance of Chilli (Capsicum annum L.) Varieties and Hybrids for Growth, Yield and Quality” during August, 2024 to January, 2025 at the Research Field of Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj. Although numerous chilli varieties have been developed and recommended by various Research Institutes and State Agricultural Universities, their adaptability and productivity differ across regions. Therefore, there is a growing need to identify a variety well-suited to the agro-climatic conditions of Prayagraj. The experiment comprised of 10 different varieties and hybrids viz., Arka Meghana F1, Arka Swetha F1, Kashi Anmol, Kashi Abha, Chilli Black Purple F1, Pusa Jwala, Suraj Mukhi, AK-47, G-4 and F1 Hybrid Long. These 10 different varieties and hybrids were laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications and were used to study the most promising variety/ hybrid in terms of growth, yield and quality with 15 characteristics. Among the 10 varieties and hybrids, V2 (Arka Swetha F1) was found to be the most superior hybrid variety with days to germination (4.90 days), days to 50% flowering (43.80 days), days of first picking of fruit (62.86 days), fruit length (11.82 cm), fruit diameter (2.43 cm), number of fruits per plant (57.67), average weight of fruit (4.47 g), fruit yield per plant (257.05 g), fruit yield (126.94 q/ha). In terms of economics, the maximum Benefit cost ratio was found in V2 (Arka Swetha F1) with 3.59.
