Effect of organic manure and plant geometry on growth and yield of finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.)

Shivani Kumari1, Victor Debbarma and Kuheli Bakshi

The field experiment titled “Effect of organic manure and plant geometry on growth and yield of Finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.)” was conducted at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, Naini Agricultural Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh during Kharif season of 2024. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with nine treatments which were replicated thrice. The results revealed that treatment 8 [Poultry manure (2 t/ha) + 25 cm x 25 cm] was found to be more desirable with higher growth parameters viz, significantly taller plant height (78.93 cm), maximum number of tillers/running row meter (27.67), higher plant dry weight (21.04 g), yield attributes and yield namely maximum number of fingers/hill (27.33), higher grain yield (2.66 t/ha) and higher stover yield (5.36 t/ha). Maximum gross return (127740.00 INR/ha), net return (90090.00 INR/ha) and benefit cost ratio (2.39) recorded in treatment 8 [Poultry manure (2 t/ha) + 25 cm x 25 cm] was found to be productive as well as economically feasible.
