Effect of calcium and potassium on growth and yield of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.)

A meticulously controlled field experiment was executed during the Kharif season of 2024 at the Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, Naini Agriculture Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj, to investigate the "Effect of calcium and potassium on growth and yield of groundnut." The experimental plot's soil was characterized as sandy loam, exhibiting a nearly neutral soil reaction, and was found to be deficient in organic carbon, available nitrogen, available phosphorus, and available potassium, necessitating a targeted approach to nutrient manipulation The experimental design adhered to a Randomized Block Design, incorporating ten distinct treatment modalities, each replicated thrice to ensure statistical rigor and mitigate the impact of extraneous variables on the observed outcomes. The treatment combinations are T1 - Calcium 20 kg/ha + Potassium 20 kg/ha, T2 - Calcium 20 kg/ha + Potassium 30 kg/ha, T3-Calcium 20 kg/ha + Potassium 40 kg/ha, T4-Calcium 40 kg/ha + Potassium 20 kg/ha, T5 - Calcium 40 kg/ha + Potassium 30 kg/ha, T6 - Calcium 40 kg/ha + Potassium 40 kg/ha, T7 - Calcium 60 kg/ha + Potassium 20 kg/ha, T8 - Calcium 60 kg/ha + Potassium 30 kg/ha, T9 - Calcium 60 kg/ha + Potassium 40 kg/ha, T10 - Control (RDF) - N:P: K - 20:60:40 kg/ha. Results obtained that combined application of calcium 60 kg/ha + potassium 40 (treatment 9) significantly increased highest plant height (24.60 cm),nodules per plant (79.20), maximum plant dry weight (35.87 g), pod per plant (30.80), seed index (56.67 g), kernel yield (1.99 t/ha), haulm yield (3.52 t/ha). And also, higher economics viz., highest gross return (205179.2 INR/ha), net return (135207.8 INR/ha) and B:C ratio (1.93).
