Performance of jute varieties under different fertility levels

Aaradhana Lakra, HL Sonboir and Anjna Xalxo

A field experiment entitled “Performance of jute varieties under different fertility levels” was conducted during the Kharif season 2021 at Agriculture Instructional cum Research Farm, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) to find out the effect of different fertility levels on growth and yield attributes of tossa jute varieties. The experimental soil was clayey, with a slightly alkaline response, low available soil nitrogen, medium available soil phosphorus, and high available soil potassium. The experiment included two varieties (V1-JRO 204 and V2-JRO 2407) as the main plot treatment and five different fertility levels (F0- Control, F1-60:40:40, F2-80:60:50, F3- 100:80:60, and F4- 120:90:70 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha-1) as sub plot treatments. The experiment was laid up in a split-plot design with three replications. Among tested varieties, JRO 2407 demonstrated the higher plant height (308.9 cm), dry matter accumulation plant-1 (326.7 g), leaf area index (3.55), stem diameter (1.04), fibre length (246.2 cm), and fibre yield (20.54 q ha-1). Among the different fertility levels, the application of 120:90:70 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha-1 resulted in the highest plant height (321.2 cm), dry matter accumulation plant-1 (378.4 g), leaf area index (4.16), stem diameter (1.19 cm), fibre length (248.7 cm), and fibre yield (20.86 q ha-1).
