A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2021-22 at the Agriculture farm of Palli Siksha Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Sriniketan to study the varietal performance of chickpea under different dates of sowing in the red and lateritic belt of West Bengal. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with fifteen treatments replicated thrice. 10th December sowing performed significantly better in recording higher growth attributes, yield attributes, and yield. Sowing on 10th December found significantly 6.48% and 10.66% higher yields than 20th December sowing and 30th December sowing respectively. On the other hand, variety JAKI 9218 observed significantly higher growth attributes such as plant height, branch per plant, dry matter accumulation, LAI, and CGR and also recorded significantly higher grain yield of 6.69% and 10.93% over late sown varieties namely JG 14 and GNG 2144, respectively.
