Abstract
The present investigation evaluated the F₂ population of yellow coloured chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) for yield and quality attributing traits under open-field conditions. Substantial phenotypic variability was observed among the segregating individuals, indicating the presence of a broad genetic base suitable for effective selection. Morphological, yield and quality parameters exhibited wide variation, reflecting the influence of genetic segregation within the population. High heritability estimates recorded for major traits suggested strong genetic control and limited environmental effects, thereby enhancing the prospects of achieving meaningful genetic gain through simple selection methods. The results confirmed that the F₂ population represents a valuable genetic resource for the development of improved yellow chilli lines with enhanced yield and fruit quality, contributing to future breeding and varietal improvement programmes.
