Abstract
Crop management practices such as crop rotation and nutrient application under reduced tillage have significant influence on the performance of crops and soil health. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of P and Zn applied on cropping system basis under conservation tillage system on yield, economics and energetics along with nutrient dynamics in soil plant system. Results indicated that application of 60 kg P2O5 / ha to fenugreek resulted in 42 per cent higher pearl millet equivalent seed yield (PMESY) in the fenugreek- pearl millet cropping system along with the highest net returns and B: C ratio. Among the different modes of Zn application, soil application was found more beneficial than foliar treatments and 18 per cent higher PMESY and the highest net returns were obtained with the application of 7.5 kg Zn / ha to fenugreek. Combined application of 60 kg P2O5 / ha + 7.5 kg Zn / ha, consumed the highest amount of energy but also gave the highest amount of energy output. Physical properties of soil improved slightly. Fertility status of experimental site also improved in terms of increase in available N, P, K and Zn.
