Studies on spacing, intercrops and nutrients on yield, quality, uptake and economics of BN hybrid grass

Vijaykumar P Dasar, Boraiah B and Vinay M Gangana Gowdra

During 2020-21, a field experiment was done at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, UAS, GKVK, Bengaluru to investigate the effects of spacing, intercrops, and nutrients on yield, quality, uptake and economics of BN hybrid. The experiment was set up in a randomized block design with three replications using the factorial method. The trial includes 12 treatment combinations with two spacing levels, two intercrop levels, and three nutrient management approaches. The experimental results showed that spacing of 60-240-60 cm, intercropping of mukuna or velvet bean, and application of 25% BDLM N equivalent + 75% RDN resulted in higher dry fodder yield of BN hybrid and intercrops, higher fodder equivalent yield of BN hybrid, higher crude protein yield and higher crude fibre yield of BN hybrid and intercrops, higher nutrient uptake of BN hybrid and intercrops and higher gross returns of BN hybrid grass and intercrops. In view of its practical utility, it can be recommended for optimum fodder production of BN hybrid grass.
