Studies on design parameters for development of head cut type linseed thresher

Geeta Patel, Dr. RK Naik, Sourabh Kumar Dewangan and Harshaj Singh Tuteja

Linseed is a Rabi crop, cultivated for both seed and fibre purposes. The demand for linseed and its by-products has been progressively increasing due to its various applications in different industries. So a study about the design parameters and optimizations of the performance parameters for the head cut type linseed thresher development was carried out at SVCAET and RS, IGKV Raipur. Prototype of cutting unit and threshing unit and cleaning unit were developed. The design parameters were optimized for each unit of the thresher. For optimization of cutting unit cutting speed (21, 23, 25 and27 m/s ), two types of blade( S-shape and Rectangle shape blade) and bevel angle( 150°, 200° , 250° , 300°). The statistical analysis was carried out by three factor randomized block design with the three replications. The various performance parameters were also calculated. The result showed that the rectangle shape cutting blade having bevel angle of 200 operated with 25 m/s cutting speed shows the low stem damage and higher quality of cut. Hence it can be concluded that for development of head cut type linseed thresher rectangle shape cutting blade having 200 bevel angle and for threshing unit combination of peg and canvas type threshing element 4 mm concave size and for cleaning unit round hole sieve having 5 mm hole, 4.5 degree sieve inclination angle were optimized.
