The present investigation entitled “Effect of date of sowing and genotypes on productivity and profitability of urdbean (Vigna mungo L.)” was carried out at Instructional-cum-Research Farm, IGKV, Raipur, (C. G.) during Kharif season, 2023. Based on the experimental findings it may be concluded that urdbean genotype IU-2021-3 fetched significantly higher seed yield (1012 kg ha-1) as compared to other genotypes and gave maximum net return (45509 Rs. ha-1) and B:C ratio (3.14). Second best genotype was IU-2021-2 with seed yield (991 kg ha-1), net return (44076 Rs ha-1) and B: C ratio (3.07). Growth parameters (plant height, number of branches plant-1, number of leaves plant-1, leaf area plant-1, leaf area index, dry matter accumulation plant-1, days to 50 % flowering, days to maturity) and yield attributes (viz. number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1, number of seeds plant-1 and 100-seed weight) were also higher in both the genotypes.
As far as date of sowing is concerned, Timely sowing (27th July) of urdbean recorded significantly higher growth parameters (plant height, number of branches plant-1, number of leaves plant-1, leaf area plant-1, leaf area index, dry matter accumulation plant-1, days to 50 % flowering, days to maturity), yield attributes (viz. number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1, number of seeds plant-1 and 100-seed weight), seed yield (1091 kg ha-1) and net return (55192 Rs ha-1) than Late sowing (11th August).
The interaction between genotype IU-2021-3 and timely sowing (27th July) registered significantly highest seed yield (1091 kg ha-1) and net return (Rs. 55192 ha-1). This is closely followed by interaction between genotypes IU-2021-2 and Indira URD Pratham with timely sowing (27th July).
