Abstract
The field study was laid out during winter season of 2015-16 at Soil Conservation and Water Management Farm, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur. The main objective was to work out the suitable row ratio of mentha planting with wheat. The nutrients status of sandy loam soil was low. The nine treatments, which are listed in Table 1 & 2 was tested in three replication of RBD. The wheat cultivar Unnat Halna and Shivalick cultivar of Mentha were used in the study. The wheat + mentha planted under 2:1 row ratio displayed higher plant stand of wheat at harvesting in comparison to other tested intercropping systems except wheat alone. The ears/plant displayed the indefinite trend while number of grains/plant (45.57 grains) recorded under alone cropping system of wheat. Insignificant response was noted in 1000-seed weight of sole wheat and intercropped wheat. The significant higher yield was recorded under sole cropping of wheat by 28.21 q/ha as compared to intercropped wheat. Among the intercropping system system wheat + mentha planted under 2: 1 row ratio gave higher grain yield in comparison to other tested intercropping systems. The fresh herbage yield. (224.90 q/ha) and oil yield (186.60 l/ha) were noted under sole crop of mentta in comparison to intercropped mentha.
