Assessment of nutritional security in household level through nutritional garden

To plant a nutrition garden is to eradicate malnutrition. Every person should consume approximately 280 grams of vegetables every day, which includes 85 root vegetables, 85 grams of other vegetables and 110 grams of leaf vegetables. Because our body gets vitamins, minerals, iron and many other nutrients through vegetables and the immunity of our body also increases. As a requirement of space 100 sq2m for 2-5 members, 150 sqm for 5-6 members and 200 sqm sufficient for 6-10 members. Nutri- gardening plays an important role for rural families to add different vegetables in their daily diet with the help of nutri-garden how a family can fulfill their vegetable requirement without spending money. KVK Auraiya organized front line demonstration on the nutritional gardening amongst 60 families. The study found that given the seasonal seed kit (rabi, karif, Zaid) of vegetables for the Nutri-garden of farm women under the front line demonstration through the kvk Auraiya. It was also found that from 200 m2 area of kitchen garden fulfilled more than requirement of vegetable in daily routine diet for Family (6 to above Members) in whole year 689 kg (Rabi season 260 kg followed by 213 kg in Kharif season and 216 kg in Zaid season). According to Requirement of vegetable as per day/per person 300 gm, Requirement of vegetable in a season 766.00 kg, and Availability of vegetable in season in 689 kg, Gap differences -77, Requirement fulfilled 89.94%, Cost of cultivation 3000, Gross income (Rs.) 13780, Net income (Rs) 10880, B.C. Ratio 4.59. Net income – 10880, Vegetables sales average rate is 20 per kg. Through kitchen/nutri garden women can also share the financial burden of male member of the family with help of growing vegetables at their own home and save the money, and with the help of kitchen/nutri garden socially they can help their family with lower health, and welfare cost, lower maternal and infant mortality rates.
