Quality seed enhances 15-20% of crop productivity. The experiment was conducted at North farm of Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture, Erode, Tamil Nadu with the aim of analyzing the time requirement for fruit and seed set in brinjal by producing hybrid brinjal seeds of two morphological different traditional varieties. In this study, we have selected two traditional varieties of brinjal viz., Purple Long (female) and White Long (male) for the experiment of crossing. After emasculation and dusting process, the fruits have been harvested from female parents and the F1 seed extracted from the resultant fruits. As a result, 5 days required for fertilization from pollination. Here, shedding of stigma is indication of fertilization. 10 days for fruit initiation, 15- 20 days for edible stage and 55 days for physiological maturity. The extracted seeds from ripened resultant fruits were used as hybrid seeds of two different natured farmers’ varieties.
