Effect of establishment methods on weed management under puddled lowlands rice (Oryza sativa)

Mahendra Singh and Manish Kushwaha

A field experiment was conducted during the rainy season of 2022 and 2023 at the Crop Research Station, Ghaghraghat (Bahraich), India. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. Three sowing methods treatments viz. Transplanted, Puddled direct seeding and Un-puddled dry direct seeding (Line sowing) were allocated in main plots; whereas sub plots consisted three weed control practices viz. Weedy check, Mechanical weeding, and-Chemical control. The minimum total weed density and dry weight of weed at 30 DAS and 60 during 2022 and 2023 was recorded under mechanized transplanting plot followed by and chemical control plot of rice crop. Effect of crop establishment methods for grain and straw yield of rice were found significant during both the years Yield attributing characters viz. number of tillers, number. of panicle, panicle weight and test weight were produced significantly higher in transplanted rice during both the years due to better weed control method followed by Chemical method.
