Influence of vermicompost and gypsum on the growth and yield of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.)

Nitin Gour, Vikarm Singh and Shruti G George

A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2023 at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, SHUATS, Prayagraj (U.P) on the topic “Influence of vermicompost and gypsum on growth and yield of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea)”, to study treatments consisting of three levels of vermicompost (2.5, 5.0 and 7.5) t/ha with combination of gypsum (100, 200 and 300) kg/ha. The soil of experimental plot was sandy loam in texture, nearly neutral in soil reaction (pH 8.0), low in organic carbon (0.62%), available N (225 kg/ha), available P (38.2 kg/ha) and available K (240.7 kg/ha). There were 10 treatments, each being replicated thrice and laid out in Randomized Block Design. The results revealed that significant and higher plant height (50.34 cm), higher plant dry weight (28.71 g), maximum number of nodule (26.27), maximum number of pod/plant (47.58), maximum number of seed/pod (2.19), test weight (36.63g), seed yield (2.75 t/ha), stover yield (4.35 t/ha), gross returns (173925.00 INR/ha), Net returns (121425.00 INR/ha) and Benefit cost ratio (2.31) was recorded in vermicompost (7.5 t/ha) + gypsum (300 kg/ha).
