Abstract
A fieldpea variety “HFP-1428” was developed by pedigree method of breeding by Pulses Section, Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. It was identified under AICRP on MuLLaRP and further released & notified for cultivation in irrigated areas of North West Plain Zone of India comprising of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, parts of J&K and western Uttar Pradesh during rabi season. HFP 1428 produced 2603 kg/ha seed yield which was 23.59, 31.46 and 55.49% more than the dwarf checks Pant P 74 (2106 kg/ha), HFP 529 (1980 kg/ha) and KPMR 22 (1674 kg/ha), respectively, in North West Plain Zone of India averaged over three years in All India Coordinated trials. HFP 1428 also exhibited 27.78% increase in seed yield over the tall check HFP 9907B (2037 kg/ha) in North West Plain Zone of India averaged over three years in coordinated trials. It exhibited 88.88% frequency in top three group (pooled over three years) as compared to dwarf checks Pant P 74 (44.4%), HFP 529 (22.2%) and KPMR 22 (zero per cent) and tall check HFP 9907B (55.6%) in North West Plain Zone of India. HFP 1428 when sown with lower and normal seed rate across the locations produced higher seed yield than the checks and it proved resistant to powdery mildew, Ascochyta blight and root rot and moderately resistant to Rust. Pod damage and aphid population was found very less in HFP 1428 in comparison to checks. HFP 1428 had a protein content of 22.47% and high nitrogenase activity at 72.81 nmoles C₂H₄/plant/h, indicating strong nitrogen-fixing potential.
