An experiment entitled “Effect of Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) varieties to various plant spacing on yield attributes, yield and economics of Kharif soybean” was conducted at P.G. Research Farm, Agronomy Section, RCSM College of Agriculture, Kolhapur during the Kharif season of 2023. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. Twelve treatment combinations include: four varieties V1 (Phule Sangam), V2 (Phule Kimaya), V3 (Phule Durva) and V4 (Phule Kalyani) and three plant spacing S1 (45 cm x 10 cm), S2 (60 cm x 10 cm) and S3 (75 cm x 10 cm). The obtained result showed that the variety Phule Sangam recorded higher yield attributing characters viz., number of pods plant-1 (64.83), number of seeds pod-1 (3.13), number of seeds plant-1 (198.11), seed weight plant-1 (22.49), 100 seeds weight (14.09 g), seed yield (29.34 q ha-1), straw yield (40.27 q ha-1) and harvest index (42.14%) and economics viz., gross monetary returns (Rs. 175227.00 ha-1), net monetary returns (Rs. 103782.00 ha-1) and B:C ratio (2.45) followed by variety Phule Kimaya. Among the plant spacings S3 (75 cm x 10 cm) yielded the best results for yield attributes like number of pods plant-1 (64.66), number of seeds pod-1 (3.23), number of seeds plant-1 (204.17), seed weight plant-1 (23.38 g), 100 seed weight (13.54 g). Whereas significantly superior seed yield (28.75 q ha-1), straw yield (39.75 q ha-1) and harvest index (41.93%) and also in economical parameters viz., gross monetary return (171995 Rs. ha-1), net monetary return (99505 Rs. ha-1) and the B:C ratio (2.37) was observed at a plant spacing of 45 cm x 10 cm against other plant spacing. Interaction effect between variety and spacing was found significant in seed weight, number of seeds plant-1, seed yield (q ha-1) and straw yield (q ha-1).
