Impact of different levels of planting densities and fertilizers on growth and yield of tissue culture banana cv. Ney poovan (AB) under hill zone of Karnataka

The experiment was conducted in tissue culture banana cv. Ney poovan (AB) to evaluate the three planting densities and fertilizers was laid out Factorial Randomized Block Design with two replication on growth and yield parameters of banana. The results of growth and yield parameters discovered that, as influenced by different levels of spacing, plant density and fertilizers on plant and ratoon crop of banana. Significantly recorded maximum with plant distance S3-4.0 x 2.0 m with D1- single plant per pit and higher fertilizer F3-150%. The maximum pseudostem height and leaf area index of plant and ratoon crop was recorded in S1 (310.26 and 304.47 cm) and (2.93 and 2.56) and plant density in D3 (310.44 and 309 cm). The pseudostem girth, number of leaves, functional leaves and leaf area at shooting was recorded maximum in S3 (61.91 and 59.50 cm), (18.16 and 16.97), (11.45 and 10.77) and (14.66 and 12.71 m2 plant-1) and in plant density was D1 (62.61 and 60.18) cm), (1839 and 17.32), (11.92 and 11.13) and (15.45 and 13.37 m2 plant-1), respectively of plant and ratoon crop. The maximum yield per ha was recorded in S1 (40.77 and 38.31 t/ha) and plant density in D3 (43.44 and 42.64 t/ha). The yield attributes like bunch, clump yield, hand and finger wight was recorded maximum in S3 (11.11, 21.63, 1.08 kg and 67.96 g) and (11.04, 21.51, 1.04 kg and 66.30 g) and in plant density was D1 (11.53, 25.08, 1.12 kg and 69.20 g) and (11.13, 24.60, 1.06 kg and 67.87 g) of plant and ratoon crop, respectively. Whereas in fertilizer (F3) was recorded significantly maximum yield in plant crop (34.26 t/ha). However, the interaction effect the highest yield per pit was recorded in S3D1 (4.0 X 2.0 m with single plant per pit) by plant and ratoon crop (12.13 and 11.92kg), which was on par with S3D1(11.83 kg and 11.65 kg), S2D2((11.54 and 11.01 kg), S3D2(11.39 kg and 11.51). In clump yield per pit and yield t/ha was recorded highest in S3D3 (30.28 and 29.85 kg) and ratoon crop (37.31 t/ha).
