Impact of intercropping on the growth and yield parameter of pigeonpea

Araj AR, Jadhav KT, Pagar PA and Bahekar PM

The "Studies on pigeonpea + speciality corn and pigeonpea + parching sorghum intercropping system" experiment was carried out at the Agricultural Research Station's Experimental Farm in Badnapur during the Kharif season of 2023–2024. With four replications and five treatments - T1-sole pigeonpea, T2-pigeonpea + soybean, T3-pigeonpea + sweet corn, T4-pigeonpea + baby corn, and T5-pigeonpea + parching sorghum - the current experimental trial was set up in a randomized block design. Each experimental unit had a gross plot size of 7.2 m by 6 m. On July 13, 2023, the dibbling method was used to sow. Pigeonpea + soybean came in second, with sole pigeonpea exhibiting the highest growth and yield parameter. Pigeonpea and sweet corn intercropping produced the lowest growth and yield parameters, most likely as a result of shading effects. However, the test weight and seed per pod did not differ significantly.
